Brief 05 of 7 · Integrated Supply · VMI/CMI · IoT

The heart of Bamal.

Integrated Supply is what customers actually buy. Any ERP proposal serves this area first — or it's the wrong ERP.

Estimated time26 – 32 minutes

Integrated Supply is where Bamal's differentiation lives. Every other module of the new ERP has to serve this operation first. Your answers here shape more of the proposal than any other brief.

We already know the pillars: Customer Managed Inventory, Vendor Managed Inventory, IoT-driven automated replenishment, plus dedicated logistics. What we don't know is the operational reality — how the data actually flows, how accurate inventory really is at customer sites, and where the current ERP either helps you or forces workarounds.

How this brief works

Answer at your paceEvery keystroke saves to your browser. Close the tab and come back — your answers persist until you submit.
Prose is fine, bullets are betterFull sentences or crisp phrases both work. Attach a doc later if easier.
Skip what doesn't applyIf a question doesn't fit or you'd rather discuss it live, leave it blank and note "let's talk".
Who's responding
01
The programs

VMI & CMI operating model

How the biggest programs actually run day to day.

Who owns the stock (Bamal vs. customer), who counts, who triggers replenishment, how billing is generated, who's on-site vs. remote.
That answer tells us what the new ERP absolutely cannot lose.
02
The physical tech

IoT bin replenishment

What's deployed today, how automated is it really, and where does a human still touch it.

Be honest here: most “IoT-driven” programs in this industry are still ~50% human-inspected. That's the biggest single AI opportunity we usually find — not because the sensors are wrong, but because ERPs don't act on the signal.
Vendor names, tech (weight, RFID, optical, e-Kanban button, Lightning), how many bins per program on average.
Direct API? Middleware? Scheduled batch? Does the ERP auto-create a replenishment order, or does someone review it first?
A best-guess is fine.
03
The truth

Inventory accuracy

You can't improve what you don't measure. Where are you?

Warehouse vs. customer-site VMI vs. CMI. What's a realistic number, not the audit number?
Frequency, method, who does it, what happens with variances.
In-transit, at customer sites between counts, work-in-process for kitting, returns.
04
Planning at scale

Forecasting & replenishment logic

The math that decides whether the customer runs out or you carry too much.

Historical consumption, customer-provided forecast, blanket releases, buyer intuition, seasonal models. Where does the ERP help, where do you override?
Formula-based? Buyer-set? Re-tuned how often?
Ballpark days-on-hand or turns is fine.
05
The other side of the coin

Stockouts & expedites

The number that keeps customer-service leaders awake.

Forecast miss, upstream supplier delay, transportation, count error, data lag, miscommunication.
Even a rough range is useful — this is often 5–15% of gross margin at distributors.
Example: “Which customers are quietly becoming unprofitable? Which SKUs will stock out in the next 30 days?”
06
The road ahead

What must work in the new ERP

Constraints and non-negotiables for this area specifically.

Include integrations, custom reports, sensor middleware, portals, anything.
The way a program is stood up, how a customer’s bin layout is optimized, how consumption anomalies are handled. This is the differentiator we’re codifying, not flattening.
